Create a Crowdfunding Campaign That’s Successful

A lot of us have heard about crowdfunding and how it’s been used for multiple applications from raising money for businesses, travelling around the world to new destinations, and even personal fundraising, whether that be for medical expenses or to fix our vehicles. Currently, there are a variety of sites that offer crowdfund, but they don’t really tell you how to be successful.

Most of us don’t even know where to start when it comes to crowdfunding. The good news here is that it’s not that hard to have a successful crowdfunding campaign. Today, we will teach you how you too can have a successful campaign.

The Fundamentals of a Successful Campaign

In order to be successful in your crowdfunding please take these steps:

1 . Grab the Attention of Your Audience

You should be very specific when you target your audience. Good writers and video producers know that the attention span of your average person is very short; eight seconds to be precise. So grabbing a person’s attention is critical. You can use both a written outline and video, but make a good case on why they should help your cause, which leads us to the next tip.

2. Make Sure You Tell the Audience What’s in it For Them

If you look at other successful crowdfunding campaigns you will see that they may have offered something to the audience if a specific donation was given. You will want to replicate these successes, but for your own campaign. You want a compelling reason for your campaign, and you can use the power of psychology, which is in the next tip.

3. Employ Psychology In Your Campaign

There are certain psychological tactics that you can use to help your campaign. There is said to be dozens of tricks to use, but the three most popular include:

  • Trigger Self-Awareness: This is an easy way to influence people as when you become introspective and recognize your own feelings people tend to overcome negative feelings and become likely to engage in a socialized behaviour. This walks hand in hand with the next two points.
  • Use Second Person Narratives: When you use second person pronouns narratives you can trigger self-awareness as they can help overcome resistance because your audience can’t raise an objection to your message, and they can relate this narrative message with their own life.

As an example, let’s say you are trying to fund a trip to Haiti to help orphans. Rather than describe the trip (the trip is about ABC), narrate the trip from the viewer’s’ perspective (when you watch our trip, you’ll see ABC). When you use this type of perspective, you will trigger self-awareness making the person more likely to fund your project.

  • Amplify Feelings of Guilt: When most people give to charity, it’s because we feel guilty. If a potential donor feels guilty, they’ll be more likely to give to your campaign, but be careful that you don’t do this incorrectly as it could be seen as manipulative.

An example of this would be something you might see from the Red Cross. Please donate $3 to help provide medication to orphans in Africa. For reference, this is about the price for a cup of coffee.”
