How to Get Started With ConvertKit

Signup to get started

To get started with ConvertKit, head over to their official website. You can read through all to get a better idea of the tool. But if you want to simply get started with creating your first project, click on ‘sign up’ at the top right of the screen. 

Setup your account

It’s now time to set up your ConvertKit account so that you can start using the various features and functionalities. Now that you click on sign up, you can help ConvertKit understand if you are moving from another email marketing tool, whether you have a website, and if so, which source is it hosted on –  WordPress, Shopify, Square Space, Weebly, Wix, etc. Once done, simply enter your email address and password to set it up.

Create and Setup Forms

Now that your account is ready, head over to the forms section. Here you need to select whether you need to create a form or a landing page. Since we wish to set up a form, click on forms.

There are three formats of forms that you can create. If you are using a plugin like Thrive Lead or other similar lead generation plugins, you might not need to use this form functionality.

Add Tags & Segments

Import your Email List

You can easily import your subscribers into any form in ConvertKit. Simply click on reports and then select the ‘import text’ link on the bottom right. The format of your email list in the CSV should be such that the first column consists of the names and the second column consists of the email addresses. In the event that your CSV consists of a header row, then you should ensure that you click on ‘CSV has a header row’ option in ConvertKit.

In the event that you have a sequence attached to that form, you must select the ‘auto-subscribe’ option. Once done, all your imported subscribers will be added to the sequence and will receive sequence emails based on their import date.

Once you are ready to import, click on ‘upload’ and you shall receive an email confirmation that your email list has been imported successfully.

Send your First Email

To create an email, first head over to broadcast. Then click on ‘new broadcast’ on the right. Now enter the email address that you wish to send the email from and confirm the filter of segmentation. Once done, you will notice the number of subscribers to whom the email will be sent. Click on the ‘next step’ and add an email subject.

If you are unsure of the title, you want to use ‘click on A/B’ and use two titles that you can choose from later. Once done, you can enter your message in the email editor, add images, GIFs, edit the fonts, add links to your new blog posts, etc. and then click on ‘next step.’ If you are happy with your email, you can click on ‘send.’
